Mockingbird
MOCKINGBIRD
Human
Chalyr
Her alter ego has been an open secret for about as long as she's been known in either form. She's known to be brazen and rude, and rarely seems to take any danger seriously.
Despite seeming deeply unreliable, the hero Sunbird works with her regularly.
She has no superficial resemblance to a mockingbird. In fact, she much more closely resembles a hummingbird. She is sometimes erroneously referred to by that name.
She's also occasionally called "Moonbird": sometimes as a reference to her association as a "counterpart" to Sunbird and her hero name already starting with an 'M'; sometimes genuinely misremembered based on those same facts.
Phoenix is not very well known. She isn't in school, and she's only spotted occasionally hanging out with Gwen Wheeler.
That said, anyone who does meet her can easily come to the conclusion that she's Mockingbird. She has a very strange and distinct look. She doesn't seem to care if she's found out.
Powers
Her weapon is nigh identical to Sunbird's, resembling the hilt of a sword and having a matching blade mode. Instead of a blaster, she has a beam-slash for long range attacks. Her attacks are just as hot as Sunbird's, and she has a similar "sparring mode" where her weapon will leave a harmless, temporary mark and a warm feeling.
She also has 'racial' abilities as a Chalyr Shapeshifter. She usually sticks to forms very similar to Sunbird's.
Affiliation
She's never content to be a pawn, but she doesn't care to be in charge. All she wants is to be respected for her skills. She will leave a group if she feels her effort is wasted on them.
If she has someone else to go to. She can't stand being alone.
She takes great pride in the reputation she's built as a trustworthy hero and enjoys the admiration of the people. She also likes not being hunted as a fugitive. Her motives might be selfish, but they are strong enough to keep her firmly on the side of good, whatever team she joins.
Early Life
Phoenix was raised by the Chalyr Kalat as a shapeshifter spy, and assigned to invade Earth and track down the "prophesied hero".
While she hates the Kalat for "squandering her potential", she initially planned to complete her mission anyway, thinking they would feel their victory was "tainted" if she was instrumental in it.
Sunbird, AUTO, and High Treason
After nearly completing her mission by killing Sunbird, Phoenix had a change of heart and decided to spite the Kalat by turning against them and working to protect humanity. To this end, she offered to help train Sunbird and formed a tentative alliance with the Protectors.
Trivia
Hero Name
Like Sunbird, the initial concept was "hummingbird", and her colors fit it much better. The only reason that wasn't her name was because in-story circumstances landed better for her to keep the name "Mockingbird" based on her mimicry of Sunbird.
It remains as a common misnomer, though.
"Civilian" Name
She chose "Phoenix" as her "human-passing" name soon after she rebelled, because Gwen asked her about it.
